Transitioning
Wow! I was afraid that I would not have work with the closing of our company ~ but I have already been working for the new one. I even have a few telephone calls to make to parents today.
It was hard to watch them struggling through setting up all the runs, when we have had it all organized for so long. They are all very nice to work with and I'm sure I will be happy in my new job.
The garden is demanding right now. I'm battling flea beetles on the eggplant and I finally have 2 fruits just leaving the blossom stage. The peas are slowing production and I will probably replace them with bush beans. I did manage to put up 2 upside down hanging tomato plants. Many plants waiting in the wings to be upside down but I have not had time to make the hangers.
Loads of tiny tomatoes and blossoms; zucchini (courgette) are in blossom and I am really looking forward to my first harvest. Carrots and parsley root are growing beautifully but still have a week or two before harvest. They are in a bed that does not get a full day of sun.
Here's the broccoli that I was so concerned about head development. We have already harvested 3 heads this size:
Each head was one full pound!
One day soon I'll get back out for pictures.

That is a beautiful head of broccoli. I usually put some in every year, but for some reason didn't get any in this year. Sounds like your garden is doing great this year. I'm so glad to hear it.

That is good news that you still have a job. You are so lucky to grow veg like that
Thanks Ladies :)
Kelly ~ I didn't get my scarlet runner beans in that I grow on the trellis. The hummingbirds love them. I may still try. You can go for a crop of fall broccoli. I would start mine in the middle of July to be able to harvest September/October. Give it a try.
Juls ~ It sounds like my job will be even nicer than before. Not so random, but on more of a schedule.
Congrats on the job.
I have so much broccoli, I don't know what to do with it! I need to either freeze it or bring it to the food shelf. I have already started seeds for a fall crop. I plant peas on my tomato cages so that just as the tomatoes are taking over the peas are done and ready to get torn out.

Hey girl Been so long!!!!!!! I have a question for you ,some of my onions are forming flower heads
But the bulb is still tiny ,should I cut off the flower head ,so the energy goes more to the bulb ,these were the onions you bought for me ,And are suppose to be storage onions ! How is the garden , I am getting withdrawl for not seeing your wonderful pictures!!!
Hi Tess!
I know it's been a long time. I've been swallowed by my job. It's either quit or work like a fool until the site is running normal. Things keep happening like the old company ignoring agreements made like leaving the phones turned on so we could just have them transfered to new company. Today we had to do business without telephones. After I got back from my afternoon run I had to go get phones, then turn the days paperwork in up at our main office. I end up working 10 - 12 hour days.
The garden is on it's own. My husband and sons are re-shingling the roof so nobody is available to care for it. The chickens get taken care of only because they would die! The onions will not taste good if allowed to go to seed as is the garlic. Maybe allow a few and try your luck at planting your own from seed. But yes, cut the flowers off.
BIG head of broccoli! It's too hot here to get good broccoli. I planted eggplant for the first time and I have some fruit. Don't know when to pick them. I see them in the grocery story and they are very large. Don't think these will get that big. My garden has done very well this year, overall. It's very hot but still getting things. You must be busy with yours. Blessings, kc
Kathy: We had the perfect weather and still are having night time temperatures in the 50s!!!!! It is mid July!!!
I should have gone for more kale, cabbage and such as well. Just never know.
My eggplant is a shorter season variety (slim jim) and is long and narrow. I usually can't grow it because of the terroristic flea beetles ;) I probably won't get any fruit. I just love eggplant and so I try. Now and then I get a few. Good luck with it! Oh, I posted on your site.
Your broccoli is wonderful . Compliments
your garden looks doing well excepted for the peas but for the rest all is growing well . What about the leeks you grew up in your houp house ( the name escapes to me ).?i am digging up potatoes and I planted at the plva 468 leeks . i have as much to do .
Our cabbages have been eaten by pigeons and turtledoves . I forgot to put a net above them .
Ater the cherrie time at the end of June we went in vacation and at the return Janine and I worked in the garden . Now we have stopped because it is raining and the ground is wet .
I am glad you enjoy your new job . we have to rejoice you found so quickly a job in another company .
Love
Michel
